Upcoming Events

April 27, 2010

With our Grand Opening and Earth Day events behind us I wanted to take a moment to fill you in on what we have happening on a regular basis and what we are working on for the future. As mentioned throughout our site multiple times we strive for perfection with our fresh baked goods and espresso based drinks and we’ve received a lot of feedback that they alone would be enough  to keep customers coming back. But we are striving to become a lot more! We want to instill a sense of community and become a hub for arts and culture on the South side of Edmonton. We look forward to watching families grow up in our cafes, be talked about in stories starting with remember when, and enjoy hearing our room filled with laughter on multiple occasions.

We are proud to announce that Edmonton’s Pure Artists are going to be playing in our cafe most Friday nights. You can visit our Featured Artists section to learn more about the musicians who have came through our cafe. Or stop buy and listen to them on the following nights!

In additions to supporting pure Artists we are also in discussion with multiple groups about creating a monthly artists gala night to help promote local artists by displaying photographers, Painters, and other artists work throughout the cafe for you to not only come out and enjoy but have a chance to meet the people behind the art! We are hoping the amazing start is only the tip of what’s to come and can’t wait to see you in our cafe.

Earth Day – Recap

April 27, 2010

It’s been a fun couple of weeks, with live music, new friends, great drinks and baking up a storm. For our latest update I’m excited that our Earth Day celebration last Thursday was a huge success! First I’m proud to say the combined efforts of all the Good Earth Cafe’s has sold enough coffee to provide 458 weeks of food to less fortunate children through the UN World Food Program and this is before we consider any donations from Earth Day! I’m also proud of the support you’ve all given to the program as our Summerside Location has sold the most Earth Coffee of  all the Cafe’s in the Good Earth family during Earth Week. I must say it’s exciting to be part of a community that is willing to give back and make an effort to improve the world we live in.

I’ll end this post off inviting you to visit our featured musicians page to learn a little more about the amazing performance that was put on by Asim, Mieke, and Maria from Pure Artists for Earth Day. Unfortunately I’m sad to say I forgot my camera so I don’t have pictures to share with you but I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again! However, I did received a few more pictures from the Grand Opening I’ll share those for your viewing pleasure.

Grand Opening

April 23, 2010

I want to thank everyone who attended our Grand Opening, which we celebrated with Carrot Cake, Face Painting, Balloons and topped it all off with live music!. It was a gorgeous day and we received an warm welcome from the community and the welcome we received re-assured that we picked the right location to not only operate our Cafe, but to join a strong and enthusiastic community! We all saw many of our friends, family and colleagues resulting in an amazing day.Instead of going on about how great a day it was I’ll share some pictures of the event with all of you.

Earth Day Celebration

April 19, 2010

Join us this Thursday April 22nd to celebrate Earth Day the worlds largest environmental event eelebrated by over 1 billion people in 170 countries, and demonstrate your desire to see a positive change in the world. To celebrate earth day and help raise awareness for not only being environmentally responsible but also socially responsible we will be featuring live music by Pure Artists of Edmonton and raising money for the UN World Food Program by providing a FREE SMALL COFFEE to anyone donating United Nations World Food Program and Earth Coffees 1 Bag feeds 1 Child for 1 Week program.

About the Earth Coffee Program:

Hunger claims the life of a child every six seconds. Earth Coffee commits 100% of its net profits to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to combat global hunger.

Every pound of Earth Coffee sold provides a child with meals in school for a week.

Why school meals?

School meals are a simple way to fight child hunger while promoting education in some of the most impoverished nations in the world. School meals are proven to increase enrollment and retention rates in school, especially for girls. The result is a well-fed, educated community which serves to sustain current and future generations.

WFP provides school meals to an average of 22 million children each year in 70 countries.

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In 2010, WFP aims to bring food assistance to more than 90 million people in 74 countries.

We at Earth Coffee are proud to support the World Food Programme’s efforts.

About Earth Day:

Earth Day provides the opportunity for positive actions and results.

First launched as an environmental awareness event in the United States in 1970, Earth Day (April 22) is celebrated as the birth of the environmental movement.

Earth Day is a powerful catalyst for change. The first Earth Day, spearheaded by Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson and Harvard University student Denis Hayes, involved 20 million participants in teach-ins that addressed decades of environmental pollution. The event inspired the US Congress to pass clean air and water acts, and establish the Environmental Protection Agency to research and monitor environmental issues and enforce environmental laws.

In 1990, two million Canadians joined 200 million people in 141 nations in celebrating the first International Earth Day. In many countries, the global event brought pressure on heads of state to take part in the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to address issues such as climate change and the world wide loss of species.

In Canada, Earth Day has grown into Earth Week and even Earth Month to accommodate the profusion of events and projects. They range from large public events, such as Victoria’s Earth Walk (5,000 participants), Edmonton’s Earth Day Festival at Hawrelak Park (30,000 participants), and Oakville, Ontario’s Waterways Clean-up (2,000 participants) to the thousands of small, private events staged by schools, employee groups and community groups.

Opening Week

April 12, 2010

We are excited to have been open and part of your community for the last week! We’ve been ecstatic about the feedback with customers coming from many areas of the city based on the word of mouth already from the local communities of Summerside, Ellerslie, Millwoods, Rutherford and MacEwan raving about the fresh baked muffins and cinnamon rolls as well, endless compliments about our soup specials and panini’s it’s been an exciting (and admittedly a little exhausting week. ) However comments like these make it more then worthwhile.

“you’re cafe feels like I’m going to an old friends house not a business.”

“Our community needed somewhere like this where we can call home.”

“Ohhhhh, ……Oooohhhhhhh……  Ya I’ll take one of each those muffins, those samples taste ridiculously good”

Keep watching this page for updates on what ’s happening at the cafe, in our community!
